What's stress got to do with it?

This week, I had a chat with a mom.  We talked about many different topics, but one thing that stood out to me was: STRESS.

It turns out, stress can mess you up and make you forget about all the good decisions you've been making.

When you are a mom, you have many aspects of your life that can stress you out:

  • job
  • kids
  • finances
  • parents being sick
  • and (gulp) your health.

Ain't nobody got time for that!

The big question is "So what can I do about it?"

The thing is, there are actually two types of stresses: Eustress (good stress, you know the one that keeps you moving forward) and Distress (the bad kind that makes you lose your cool!)  We all need a little bit of stress in our lives, but shit hits the fan when you let your stress control your life.

What can you do about it? Well, you need to step up your self-care game.  "Hunh?" is probably what popped up in your mind (am I right?), but hear me out.  Stress is because we let life happen to us, we let life control our emotions, we simply react to what's happening instead of taking charge and making changes.

Self-care doesn't need to be a weekend getaway or a day at the spa (although that would be very nice!).  Self-care can be 15 minutes of alone time during your day.  Don't have 15 minutes? Can you wake up 15 minutes earlier? Take 15 minutes during your lunch break? or go to bed 15 minutes later?  When there's a will, there's a way!

What can you do during those 15 minutes? Here are some ideas:

  • Take a bubble bath
  • Read a book in bed
  • Call a friend
  • Do your nails
  • Adult coloring books
  • ETC.

You get to pick what makes you feel AHHHHHH!!  You get to pick an activity that makes you forget that you have to adult right now!

What else can you do about it?  Let me take one stressor off your shoulders, mama. Let me help you with your health.
